Karen Read and the Good Girl Trope

Grown-ass Professional Woman is Gaslit in front of the World to See

by The Spinster Woolgar

Karen Read was wrongly accused of hitting her Boston police officer boyfriend, John O’Keefe with her luxury SUV over three years ago.

Boston. Cop. O’Keefe. Words and a culture that together are sometimes associated with police corruption.

Read speculates she was framed because her boyfriend, O’Keefe, was attacked by a few of his fellow police officers and left to die in the snow. Read’s defense team presented evidence that O’Keefe was not hit by a car, but in fact, was attacked by a dog and beaten to death. Presumably by a German Shepherd belonging to one of the police officers, who Read believes is connected with O’Keefe’s death. Read’s defense says they can’t speculate on the dog attack was before or after the events that lead to the damages to his body that led to his death.

New charges have not been filed in the death of one of Boston’s finest, Officer John O’Keefe. A most beloved member of the town he lived in by all who knew him. Karen Read was proven not guilty of murder charges and the DA has no other defendants to try.

They simply can’t find the dog who may have made these injuries (The accused pup’s name was Chloe. She’s been rehomed since John O’Keefe’s death. Sad day for Chloe who had been a member of their family for years.

Karen Read was later acquitted of the charges related to her involvement in his death. My question is, have any of my classmates ever had an experience where someone has been ganged up on and gaslit like this? At one point, even Karen Read thought she might have hit him with her car. Even though Read never felt the impact of her SUV hitting a significant human body, she briefly believed it was possible.

How do you get a woman to question herself? You tell her she’s not being a good girl. In the case of Read’s guilt on a manslaughter charge, she came to this conclusion (again, briefly. Our girl’s a fighter), because the investigators (and possible co-conspirators) convinced Read she wasn’t being a good girl by implications such as opening up the possibility she was breaking the law.

Read had several alcoholic drinks in the hours leading up to the event in question.

It was true. She had a lot of drinks. She was probably drunk according to legal standards. But she didn’t hit him. She didn’t. It’s been proven in court. But, even if it was just for a few days, an experienced, middle-aged, professional, educated woman with a Ronda Rousey-mentality thought it was possible she murdered her boyfriend.

I can’t think of a specific instance right now, but this has happened to me.

Fucking dudes… makes me kind of hate them. Only kind of though. The good girl in me thinks it’s hot to see a man control something. Even when it’s my entire gender.

Men know this about me and most of my gender. They exploit it and we let them simply because we hate to admit that we allow this to happen. Why do I? I dunno. Lazy, I guess?

Who run the world, Beyonce? Dudes. White ones. Some black ones. Some brown ones… all of the colors of man. It’s the dudes, Bey Bey. It’s the fucking dudes!
